This project focuses on the plains buffalo, its decimation through government policy and the settling of the West, 150 years ago. Saskatchewan artist, Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway, will brain tan and smoke a buffalo hide in public over the Winter 2018 semester, culminating in an exposition during Congress 2018. Using Nakoda words and pictographs and employing natural tints, dyes and paints, she will illustrate her connection to the buffalo on the finished robe.

Meet the artist at 2:00pm in front of the tipi near the Lloyd Barber Academic Green (southwest corner) for an informal artist talk. View the buffalo hide at ED 185 (the Rainbow pit).
